In 2010 Lucy complained to John about how miserable their summer holidays were, usually in a tent or a damp cottage on the wet west coast of Scotland, dodging rain showers and swiping clouds of midges.  "For the love of god" she implored, "can we not just go on a beach holiday like everyone else".  The thought of lying in a hot sand pit for a week filled John with horror, but with that nightmare image, an idea was born.  John would learn how to sail and take Lucy to the sunny Mediterranean, freed from rain and midges, Lucy would be tooti-contenti while John would be busy doing important stuff.  Ten years on, John and Lucy now have their own boat and a new dream, to sail around the world.
